Established in 2008 by the late, legendary Taras Ochota, a pioneer of Australia’s natural wine movement, Ochota Barrels is a producer of highly sought after small-batch, holistic wines located in the Basket Range subregion of South Australia’s Adelaide Hills.
Fruit for Ochota Barrels is sourced from a selection of exceptional vineyard sites in the Adelaide Hills, Mclaren Vale and the Barossa Valley where organic, biodynamic, and sustainable viticulture is practiced. The approach to winemaking is simple. Loose and naturally funky, the wines are crafted with minimal intervention using an old-fashioned basket press. They are fermented in neutral barrels and no fining or filtration is done. Sulphur is avoided.
Complex, energetic, consistent, and moderate in alcohol, the wines show great purity and have attained cult status. Tragically, Taras passed away in 2020, but his vision lives on under the precise hand of his wife and fellow winemaker, Amber.
