ピム・レイはカルフォルニア、ナパ・ヴァレーのマウント・ヴィーダーに位置します。以前は俳優のロビン・ウィリアムズによって所有されていましたが、2015年にボルドーの有力生産者シャトー・ポンテ・カネのオーナー、アルフレッド・テスロンが、ウィリアムズの家族より買取ました。
ピム・レイの人里離れた場所にある武骨な土壌の畑は壮観です。標高1500フィートにある、マウント・ヴィーダーの石灰質の堆積土壌の傾斜には、ボルドー左岸の主要品種であるカベルネ・ソーヴィニヨン、メルロにカベルネ・フランなどが植樹されています。マウント・ヴィーダーの生産量は少なめですが、その品質は卓越しています。シャトー・ポンテ・カネと同様に畑はビオディナミで管理し全て手作業で行っています。
テスロン家の手掛けた最初のヴィンテージは2016年、彼らはただ１つのワインをリリースしました。その並外れたブレンドワインはこの山独自のテロワールを見事に表現しています。エレガントでフレッシュ、洗練されたタンニンによるしっかりとした骨格を持つピム・レイのワインは力強さと優雅さを同時に体現しています。
Pym-Rae is situated near the top of the Mount Veeder AVA in the Napa Valley, California. The sprawling property was formerly owned by the late actor Robin Williams. In late 2015, Alfred Tesseron, of the highly regarded Bordeaux estate Château Pontet-Canet, purchased it from Williams’ family.
Pym-Rae’s remote and rugged vineyard is spectacular. It sits at an elevation close to 1,500 feet on Mount Veeder’s steep sedimentary-limestone slopes and is planted in the Left Bank Bordeaux grape varieties of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc. Yields on Mt. Veeder are low and the fruit is exquisitely concentrated. As at Château Pontet-Canet, the vineyard is farmed biodynamically, and all the work is performed by hand.
The Tesseron’s inaugural vintage was 2016 and they make just one wine - an exceptional red blend showcasing their unique mountain terroir and peerless pedigree. Elegant, fresh, and structured with finely textured tannins, Pym-Rae is at once both delightfully graceful and muscular.
