One of a new generation of talented and passionate young Burgundian winemakers, Clarisse de Suremain founded her tiny domaine, situated in Sampigny-lès-Maranges, in 2019. A native of Burgundy, Clarisse originally acquired two small parcels of old Aligoté and Gamay vines located in Volnay and Pommard. Today, her chemical-free and holistic holding totals 2.5ha across three parcels in Monthelie, Volnay, and Pommard. She supplements her tiny estate production by purchasing grapes from Chablis, Pernand-Vergelesses, Beaune, and Chorey-lès-Beaune. The niece of Eric de Suremain (Château de Monthelie), who has been practicing biodynamics on his family estate since 1996, Clarisse also has a strong interest in organic farming and biodynamics, and only uses organically grown fruit. In the cellar, her winemaking is gentle and low-intervention. These are serious wines of passion and place, showcasing incredible finesse, lightness, and elegance.
