2002年、シャルル・バロは、ムルソーの中心にある由緒ある家族経営のドメーヌを継承しました。彼は1630年以来、代々この地でブドウ畑を築き上げてきた家系の第16代目当主です。現在、ドメーヌはムルソーを中心に計12ヘクタールの古木畑を所有しており、ボーヌ、シャサーニュ＝モンラッシェ、ポマール、ヴォルネイにも畑を持っています。畑の大部分はシャルドネで植えられており、ムルソーの三大一級畑を含む区画を所有。その中には、一級畑ジュヌヴリエールにある樹齢70年の古木の区画もあります。さらに2ヘクタールはピノ・ノワールが植えられています。

シャルルは有機農法を実践し、収量を制限し手摘み収穫を行うことで果実の品質を最大限に引き出しています。醸造所では月のサイクルに従い、土着酵母による発酵を用いながら、極めて軽やかで介入を最小限に抑えた醸造を行っています。白ワインは樽で12か月熟成させた後、タンクに移してさらに6か月熟成。赤ワインは100％除梗され、穏やかな抽出を行い、新樽の使用は控えめです。

これらのワインはエレガントでピュア、そしてテロワールの個性が見事に表現されています。白ワインは正確で直線的かつ完璧なバランスを持ち、力強さよりもフィネスを重視。赤ワインは香り高く、優美で表現力豊かです。

In 2002, Charles Ballot took over his family’s respected old estate in the heart of Meursault. He is the sixteenth generation to head the domaine since 1630, when the family first started to amass vineyards in the region. Today, the estate holds 12 hectares of exceptional old-vine vineyards - spread across Meursault for the most part, but with further holdings in Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard and Volnay. The majority of the plots are planted in Chardonnay, with holdings in the three great premiers crus of Meursault, including a parcel of 70-year-old vines in premier cru Genevrières. There are also 2 hectares planted in Pinot Noir.

Charles farms organically, with reduced yields and hand harvesting, to ensure optimal fruit quality. In the cellar, he follows the lunar cycle and applies a light, minimal-intervention approach with indigenous yeast fermentations. The white wines are aged for 12 months in barrel, and then racked to tank for an additional six months. The reds are all 100% de-stemmed, with gentle extractions. New oak is used sparingly.

These are elegant and pure wines with excellent terroir-delineation. The precise whites are linear and perfectly balanced, showing finesse over sheer power. The reds ar perfumed, graceful and expressive.
