Kilikanoon was founded in 1997 by Kevin Mitchell when he purchased the property of the same name in the hamlet of Penwortham, located in South Australia's picturesque Clare Valley. Kevin had long been familiar with Kilikanoon - his father, Mort Mitchell, nurtured the estate for decades, and Kevin played there as a child, and as a young man, helped Mort in the vineyards.
One of the premium wine grape growing regions of the world, the Clare Valley has three parallel subregions, each varying in altitute and rainfall, with soils ranging from red-brown 'terra rossa' over limestone, through to black alluvial. Home to some of the oldest vines in the region, Kilikanoon's tapestry of premium vineyards have been meticulously selected to showcase these diverse terroirs.
The winemaking is overseen by Kevin and takes place at the Kilikanoon purpose-built winery. With a focus on vibrant shiraz and riesling, the wines are powerful and elegant, beautifully balanced with ripe fruit and natural acidity - the ultimate expression of Clare Valley terroir.
Located along a quiet and shaded country road, the Kilikanoon estate is an idyllic setting, with the properties original 1860’s farmhouse housing the cellar door.
