Founded by David Abreu in 1980, Abreu Vineyards is an acclaimed Napa Valley producer of iconic cabernet sauvignon blends. A third-generation Napa Valley viticulturist, David has farmed grapes for the likes of Inglenook, Viader, and Screaming Eagle. Early in his career, he traveled frequently to Bordeaux to observe winemaking operations, returning with French rootstock and farming techniques. Abreu Vineyards released its first vintage in 1987, and over the years has garnered worldwide acclaim and frequent 100-point scores from wine critics (at least nine from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate).
Fruit for the Abreu wines comes from four spectacular, estate-owned up-valley vineyards, after which the bottlings are named - Madrona Ranch and Cappella on the valley floor in St. Helena; Thorevilos and Las Posadas, Howell Mountain. The winemaking is the responsibility of chef-turned winemaker Brad Grimes. Employing meticulous sorting and co-fermentation of the grapes, he crafts five beautiful wines in extremely small quantities, all using fruit sourced exclusively from the 28 hectares of estate-owned vineyards. Madrona Ranch, Thorevilos, Capella and Las Posadas are single vineyard expressions, while Rothwell Hyde is a blend of all four sites.
