Clos de la Roilette

The famous vineyards of Clos de la Roilette are situated to the east of the village of Fleurie on one of the best slopes in the Beaujolais Crus. With a vast view and bordering the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, the 9-hectacre estate has an eastern exposure. Long renowned as one of the best sites in Beaujolais, its wines have legendary status.

The most recent owners are the Coudert family who purchased the estate in 1967, with Fernand Coudert as the winemaker. Fernand’s son Alain joined him in 1984 and has been the winemaker since.

Farmed sustainably, organically and by hand, the vineyard is planted on heavy clay and granite soils, rich in manganese, and yields remarkably age-worthy gamay. The winemaking is classic - whole-bunch pressed, with native yeasts used for the semi-carbonic fermentations. The resulting wines have incredible richness and intensity - deeply coloured, highly perfumed and well structured, they show the fresh fruit profile of classic Fleurie when young but will age gracefully for many years. Produced in small quantities, they are highly sought after and represent outstanding value.
