Located in the the town of Arbois, in the heart of the Jura, Domaine Ratte is a tiny estate run by husband-and-wife team Michel-Henri and Françoise Ratte, and their son Quentin. All the wines are hand-crafted using fruit from 9 ha of family vineyards spread across some of the best terroirs in the region (Corvées, Grand Curoulet, Bésivette, Prélevront, the Régole, Clos Maire and Bergère). Some of the plots have been in Françoise’s family for generations, including a small parcel of 100-year-old Savagnin vines planted by her Great Grandfather. The vineyards have been farmed organically with biodynamic principles since 1989, around which time more plots were acquired and replanted biodynamically. The estate is today certified biodynamic (Demeter), and the wine is crafted in the most natural way possible. Fermented with wild yeasts, with minimal handing, it is transferred to old burgundy barrels for maturation, and bottled without filtering. Nothing is added, and nothing is taken away. These are exciting, pure, and vibrant Jura wines that fully express the fabulous terroirs from which they originate.
