Situated in the south of the Haut-Médoc appellation, close to the city of Bordeaux, Château La Lagune is an important Left Bank producer, with a long history. The elegant, classically styled château was completed in 1734, by which time the estate was already known for its wine. In the Bordeaux Classification of 1855, Château La Lagune was classed as a 3rd Growth. Since 2000, it has been owned by the Frey family (owners of the legendary Paul Jaboulet estate in the Rhône Valley), headed by oenologist Caroline Frey.
Château La Lagune’s 80 hectares of vines sit on alluvial terraces between the Atlantic and the Gironde estuary, with an ideal north-south exposure. The Freys have invested heavily in rejuvenating their vineyards, and in 2013 Caroline implemented organic farming, with certification achieved in 2016. Biodynamic techniques are also employed. Showcasing an exceptional terroir, Caroline crafts wines that are supremely elegant, beautifully textured and appreciated for their purity, finesse and harmony.
