Petrus
また、J.F.
Producer of one of the world’s most exceptional, celebrated, and expensive red wines, the historical Pétrus estate is situated on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, atop the famed Pomerol plateau. Although the wines of Pomerol have never been classified, Pétrus is widely regarded as the undisputed icon of the appellation.
Small, at just 11.5 hectares, the Pétrus vineyard is planted entirely in merlot. The vines are farmed following sustainable winegrowing principles, with green harvesting carried out to ensure concentration and maximum quality. Yields are among the lowest in Bordeaux and the ageing potential of the wine is remarkable.
Pétrus was served at the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1947, and a case was also presented to Buckingham Palace to mark the the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The wine is known to have been President J.F. Kennedy’s favourite. Opulent and concentrated, with incredible balance and length, it is rich and velvety, brimming with blackcurrant, cherry, liquorice, violet and truffle flavours.
