A classic Cabernet style. The characteristics of the grapes are evident in the abundant fruitiness. The concept behind the Killerman’s Run series was to produce wine from the best area in South Australia that was a good balance of quality and price. This wine reflects this philosophy beautifully. Harvesting is done completely by hand and the wine is aged in small old and new barrels for 2 years. This Cabernet Sauvignon is inky red in color with purple hues. Aromas of sweet berry fruits and spicy French oak characters feature on the nose. On the palate, sweet berry fruits and hints of leafy tobacco combine to create a smooth, seamless palate, further enhanced by the supportive oak characters and fine tannins on the finish.

醸造責任者のケヴィン・ミッチェルは、クロノドルフ、オーランド、BRLハーディダーレンベルグ、キングストン・エスート、ケンダル・ジャクソンなど数々の国内外のワイナリーで醸造の経験を積み、キリカヌーンとして2種類のワインを1998年に初リリース。ミッチェル家は元々クレアヴァレーで30年以上栽培家として活躍してきましたが、ケヴィンがスキロガリー・ヴァレーにあるキリカヌーンと呼ばれれていた設備を購入し、その名が与えられました。シラーズやリースリング、カベルネなど主なブドウは25年前にクレアヴァレーのリーシングハム地区にあるモーツ・ブロックとブロック・ロードの区画に植えられており、高い樹齢を誇ります。
Killikanoon has established itself as one of the real superstars of the Clare Valley. Owner and head of winemaking, Kevin Mitchell has had winemaking experience in many international and domestic wineries ranging from Krondorf, d’Arenberg, Kingston Estate, and Orlando to BRL Hardy, Kendal Jackson and Willamette Valley (USA). In 1998 he released the first 2 wines under the Kilikanoon name.
The Mitchell family has been growing grapes in the Clare Valley for more than 30 years and in 1997 Kevin purchased the facility known as Kilikanoon. The main grape varieties, Shiraz, Riesling, and Cabernet were planted on Mort’s Block and Block Road vineyards in the Leasingham area of Clare Valley 25 years ago giving them some of the oldest vines in the region.

カベルネ･ソーヴィニヨン
カベルネ・ソーヴィニヨンは、フランスの銘醸地、ボルドーを代表する黒ブドウ品種。上質な酸と収れんするタンニンは赤ワインにとって最も重要な要素である骨格を与えます。長大な熟成ポテンシャルを持つこともこの品種の特徴であり、年を経るごとにその厳格なタンニンはほどけ、味わいは洗練されていきます。香りはブラック・カーラントやスミレといった香りが若いうちは支配的ですが、熟成につれダージリン・ティー、シガーにクレーム・ド・カシスなどの香りに発展。熟成につれ、味わいが一つの方向に調和していくのに対し、香りは層をなすように複雑に花開いていきます。
また、国際的に広く栽培され成功を収めているのもこの品種の特徴です。カリフォルニアのナパ・ヴァレー、オーストラリアのマーガレット・リヴァーにチリのマイポ・ヴァレーなど、ボルドーよりも温暖で安定した気候の下で、カベルネ・ソーヴィニヨンはその個性を最大限に発揮しています。
